Windows Help

There are two areas that people generally have trouble with when first using our software that we would like to offer help with.

Bullet  When you first start the program, if you are running in a screen resolution of 800x600 you will get a message alerting you that your resolution is too small and you may have difficulty in using the program.  The application is designed to run in 1024x768 resolution or higher.  For those of you who do not know how to change your screen resolution the following instructions may help:

  • Right click your mouse anywhere on your desktop
  • Select Properties
  • Select Settings

    Desktop Property Window

  • Put your mouse on the screen resolution pointer, click and drag right. Or, click to the right of the marker. This will advance the resolution setting to the next higher value of 1024 by 768 (some versions of XP may appear different).
  • Click Apply, then click OK.
  • Your resolution will change and you are ready to resume running your computer.
  • If you want to know more about screen resolution, setting font size, and so on, search the Internet for "Windows XP screen resolution".

Bullet  Another common problem is caused by the security setting of your browser (assuming you have Microsoft Internet Explorer).  When you launch either of the help files the browser loads the start file and the menu does not work.  If your warning message box is disabled or your sound is turned down or you aren't paying close attention, you will miss the reason for this behavior.

Microsoft desires to have Internet Explorer set to the highest security settings possible, which traps javascript code, popups windows, and so on.  When this happens a yellow bar appears under your address bar, as shown in the picture below, which in turn blocks the code from working, thus the guide's menu on the left will not respond.

IE Security Alert:

IE Security Blocker

Put your mouse anywhere on the yellow bar with the shield symbol at the left and right-click.  A short menu will appear - click on "Allow Blocked Content...", then click "Yes".  The yellow bar will disappear and the menu at the left will now work.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THESE ISSUES ARE A RESULT OF HOW YOU RUN YOUR COMPUTER AND NOT A PROBLEM WITH OUR SOFTWARE.  Screen resolution is a user's choice and security is everyone's business to be safe.

Enjoy!
